Getting Through Difficult Situations

Managing Transition and Unwanted Change;  Maintaining Your Power and Prerogative Sometimes, we are presented with unwanted events and circumstances that we did not create.   A good example of this is a major workplace transition, such as a change in management, workplace restructuring and downsizing or job loss. An example in another arena of life may consist of an illness or diagnosis of a chronic disorder.   This is a general set of guidelines to help us find ways to adjust, cope and function well in the face of such challenging changes. Recognize that you are in the situation; not of it: Do not internalize the negative change or allow it to define you.   Just because you are experiencing this challenge does not mean that you are deficient or defective. Maintain your sense of value and see that you deserve to get through the difficulty. Acknowledge the impact of the situation and validate your feelings: It’s okay and natural to register negative
